Lesley Hanlon (nee Wood) passed away on Tuesday 7th November 2017 at her home in Tampa, Florida, aged 82.


We have been informed that Joan Mugleston (nee Williams) died in March 2018. Joan joined the School in 1942.


The death of Alison Prior was announced in the Leicester Mercury on 12th June.

Alison joined the School in 1962.

The funeral service was held on Fri 15th June at 4.30.p.m. at Great Glen Crematorium.


The death of Charles Cox aged 89 was announced on 25th June.

Charles joined the School in 1939 and was in Evans House.

A Service of Remembrance was held at Carlton Parish Church on Monday July 9th.


The Rev. John Shearer died on Friday 7th September after a long battle with cancer.

His funeral took place on Monday 24th September at Nuffield Church, The Top of Nuffield Hill, Nuffield, Henley- on-Thames, RG9 5SN where he was Rector for 40 years.


The death of former member Barry Masters, on November 17th aged 76, was announced in the Leicester Mercury. Barry joined the School in 1952. His funeral service took place on Monday 3rd December 2018 at Loughborough Crematorium.


The death is announced of Elizabeth Ritchie, nee Crawford. Liz joined The School in 1955 in Cope house. She passed away on 23/12/2018 and her funeral service took place on 10/01/2019 at Bretby Crematorium. Liz was a regular supporter of our Reunions and the Association was represented at her funeral.


David Paul sadly died on 16/01/2019 at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He had been suffering with Parkinson’s disease for some time. David’s funeral was held on 29th of January, 12.15 pm at Chilterns Crematorium, Whielden Lane, Amersham, HP7 0ND.


The death has been announced of Anne Flavell. Anne passed away on 10th March aged 65. A celebration of Anne’s life was held at the Western Isles Hotel, Tobermory on Saturday 23rd March. Loud shirts and silly hats were worn as Anne would have wanted.


Peter Loseby and his wife Sheila attended Rosemary Middleton’s funeral on Monday 4th November. Both Rosemary's husband Bob and son Edward gave powerful and well prepared eulogies. Edward held aloft Rosemary's school report book that they had only discovered recently. Peter studied it afterwards and pointed out the last “Headmaster 's  Comments” prior to W. F. Gosling's retirement.

The service not only included three hymns but three choir anthems. Most people know how much Peter enjoys funerals with plenty of choral work. Peter stressed that the wake was also out of the “Top Drawer”!

Christine, Rosemary’s sister, will be taking Kay Palmer, her mother to Mkt. Bosworth Church for some quiet reflection soon.

Edward 's wife is researching the family history so Peter pointed her in the direction of the DGSA website and a suggestion that if she requires any clarification she should contact Walter Baynes.


The death on 03/09/19 of our Founder Member and long serving Committee Member Anne Jones was announced previously. Anne’s funeral took place on Monday 7th October at Blaby Church, 1pm, followed by Countesthorpe Crematorium at 2pm. Afternoon tea was then served at the Dog & Gun in Kilby. T


Eleanor Rose Tipler, known as Lynne, died on 30th August. She was 84 years old.

Mrs Tipler, was Head of PE and Games at Dixie and then on to Bosworth College from 1968. Her funeral took place on 17th September at South Leicester Crematorium, Countesthorpe.


The death has been announced in the Leicester Mercury of former pupil Janet Bateson, nee Geary. Janet joined the School in 1954. Sadly Janet passed away on 3rd March.

Her funeral service took place at St. John’s Church, Dormansland, on the 5th April.


The sudden death has been announced of DGSA member Eric Dickens. Eric joined Dixie in Johnson House in 1964. He died on the 9th January. His funeral was held at 11.00 a.m. on Friday 1st February at St Bartholomew’s Church in Kirby Muxloe and was followed by a private committal. The Association was represented.


The death has been announced of Jeff Toon, (Evans House, 1947). Jeff died on 8th October and his funeral took place on Friday 8th November at 2.30pm at Gilroes followed by a funeral tea at Heathley Park, next door.


The death has been announced of John (Jack) Chesterton who joined the School in 1951. John passed away on December 7th and his funeral took place on January 3rd at St. Martin’s Church, Desford, followed by burial at Kirby Muxloe Cemetary. The Association was represented by Graham Rawlings.
